Let’s play the Shakespearean Insult Game!
Styles and Periods actually went rather well this morning, I got a lot out of the text work on Measure For Measure. It’s really cool to see how Shakespeare puts in stage directions by changing certain things out of iambic.
Then I finished my book and took a short nap. Around two my mom stopped by so I could help her on her choir music. Halfway through that Bruce showed up for my session with him, and I got to work on Le Charme and I Hate Men. That was a really good session. I started to work on my emoting in the song, and it made a huge difference in the sound. I also had to roll with a more italian ‘r’ than a French, because you cannot really sing with a throaty ‘r’ because it closes off your sound.
I am so glad that my Jane Austen midterm is over. I was stressing out about it. The essay was focused on Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship, how it formed/changed, and the difference between the novel and the movie. Also, we had to come up with a separate thesis and then support that with the other information. I chose the thesis that Darcy and Elizabeth were destined for each other, and that no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t escape that fate. Whenever Elizabeth would travel anywhere, Darcy would already be there. It is as if he can sense her motions, anticipate them.
The essay was going pretty well, when I noticed that I was at the Netherfield ball and I only had three pages left in my blue book. I had to rush somewhat through the rest, and I finished within the last ten minutes of class on the very last line of the very last page.
I hope I did well… I also had a French exam on the same day, and I really hope that went well.
Last night was the photoshoot for the One Acts. The entire cast for Eye of The Beholder (including the Director) showed up at 5pm. We all had received emails saying it was at 5, and we all got into costume and were ready to go. We sat down in the hall and waited…
and waited….
and waited…
5:30, no one shows up to take our pictures.
we waited…
we waited…
5:40
still no one.
Our director told us to go to dinner. So we did. Ten minutes after we sit down in the caf I get a phone call.
“Uh, Emilie. Can you guys come back down here, please? APPARENTLY it was scheduled for six.”
We all sigh, look at each other, and trudge back down the hill and get in costume again. Not a SINGLE email said 6pm, the entire cast and director thought it was at 5pm. Just saying…
Then–it gets worse. We get in costume, are put in place by our director, and then handed paintbrushes and told to pose.
\
We had NO idea what to do, the publicity director didn’t say anything, the photographer had a knack for taking random photos when none of us thought he was, and then the S.M. pulled our director away to talk to him so we were left alone with these random people who didn’t give us any direction. The poster lady was making faces and said something like, “I don’t like that” but didn’t make a move to change anything or let us know what she wanted. We’re ACTORS not MODELS, we don’t do stuff like this all of the time, but we take direction well and if you’re not getting what you want then let us know! Please! We don’t want this to look bad any more than you do.
Then we had to tape the stage, and that took about 35 minutes, but it was nice in rehearsal to know what the stage will look like since we cannot rehearse there until the week of.
I am extremely ready for spring break. I haven’t been so exhausted in a long time, and I will definitely need this break to memorize my lines. I have two plays to memorize, plus my Shakespeare scene for Styles and Periods, and my Chanson francais for Acting for Singers. I also need to devote a lot of time to my flute solos, and I also have to work on the weekends. Ugh.
Students have to pay extra money to live in the dorms during break, unless they are in the apartments, so I’m going to have to drive up every evening for rehearsal. It will, however, be nice to sleep in my own bed for a change.
I am now completely done with my interview process for Resident Assistant. I really hope I get the job, but there are 25 people applying for 9 positions. AAAHHHH! Also, I just found out that next year all Sophomores are required to live on campus. I cannot afford to live on campus next year without some more assistance (part of the reason I wouldlike to be an R.A. ) so I don’t know what’s going to happen if I do not get it. Pray for me please!
Hmmm….anything else new in my life??
Not really. I’m just stalling until 5:30 when the caf opens for dinner, because I’m starving. I ought to be doing my French workbook but I’m stupid and saving that for after dinner.
Pray for me to pick a major, and to be able to pay for school, and to find a better job, and figure out a career path I’d be interested in that can pay my bills. I know this is a lot to ask, but I need it.
Thank you so much in advance!
Sincerely,
Emilie
Rough day. I took a photography class and I know that working with professional models is tough enough but not being one and being expected to act like one must be worse. Good luck with the application. It sounds like you need to pick theater, or at least English. My mom got a Masters in Theater Arts. It is possible.

Oh man! That all sounds so exciting, and artsy
That Jane Austen class sounds awesome, I would love to write an essay about that, rather than why the Europeans wanted to find the indies so bad.
