grovel…cringe….bow…fall “go go Joseph”!

Yesterday Alanna and I went to the Dollar Store, a trip that we take every few months. Whenever we cannot decide what to do we stop in to see what cheap dollar items can inspire our creativity. We walked first through the toy and electronic aisles, but nothing caught our eye. And then turning the corner-Behold!-an array of brightly colored coloring books were displayed rather haphazardly in front of us. Surely such a Mecca of entertaining fun has never been greeted more enthusiastically. After a lengthy time of consideration I settled on two Indiana Jones books, two Star Wars books, and a Disney Heroes book. After Alanna made her selections we went to look for crayons, but to our dismay there were none to be found. We were slightly appeased when we discovered children’s books about Joseph and his dream coat. (the importance will be explained later) We ended up making a trip to Wal-Mart to get crayons, and I (a sucker for *free gifts) bought the big box with 120 crayons, in order to receive my special gift–a crayon shaped crayon sharpener.

We retired to Alanna’s basement to color in our books, and spent about three pleasant hours in this fashion. Eventually we had to evacuate due to some raunchy smells emanating from the direction of her cat’s litter box.

After coloring a little more we had to pack up and get out of the door in order to make it to our first rehearsal out in Union. (By the way, taking Dalby is waay faster than Purdy Creek)

I walked in, and I was surprised to find myself already on the list. Even more surprised-I had apparently been given the role of one of Joseph’s brothers (explanation=we are doing a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Anna’s Bay, but I hadn’t been able to make the leads’ audition because I was at work. Hence the excitement at the children’s story, we bought the books so the the cast members can sign it at the end) Granted I don’t have any solos or anything, but the brothers as a whole are on stage a lot and get some songs. I was extremely excited, and surprised.

Jahni is also a brother but she has a solo, and as we started to through some of the music we weren’t sure if we were supposed to be singing in the guy’s octave (since we were playing men) or the written octave. So we kind of just went back and forth. It was actually pretty funny. I’m sure we’ll find out at rehearsal tonight what we’re actually supposed to be doing.

It was a lot of fun being at rehearsal, and it was nice because I miss working on music now that it’s the summer. I think this show will be a lot of fun. I’ve listened to the soundtrack about 5 times now, and I absolutely love the music. I am extremely psyched, and everyone should come. It is the last weekend in August, at the high school stage.

Sincerely,

Emilie
